I am 100% guilty of self-loathing. They say, “you are your own worst critic,” and I, unfortunately, fall under that quote. I’m the first to pick out my “flaws,” and the last to give myself a compliment. That being said, I am working on understanding myself, and understanding my body, and how it works. I am more confident in myself now than I ever have been, however, I did just have my second baby. *cue the insecurities*
My body has changed so much in the last few years. It has gone through 2 pregnancies, 2 recoveries, and 1 hormonal imbalance of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). My body has frustrated me at times, it has worn me out, it has confused me, it has made me feel sick, it has made me feel not myself, BUT, it has NEVER failed me. Even when it was a challenge for me to get pregnant (due to PCOS), it overcame that. Even when my first pregnancy had health scares, early delivery, and preeclampsia, it overcame that. Even when I felt miserable and dizzy and couldn’t stop passing out and having health scares, it overcame that. And, because I have seen what my body has gone through, and what it can do, I now have a completely new perspective.
My body isn’t just something I dress up for fashion photos. My body is a machine. My body has strength I never knew possible. My body has carried 2 babies for 9 months each, and delivered 2 healthy babies. My body fights for me daily, so that I don’t feel the effects of PCOS. And, I would be insane to not give credit to my Lord and Savior, because, Lord knows I have no control over my health condition or my pregnancies!
I now view my body as a temple. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” -1 Corinthians 6:19-20. My body is far much more than something to look at, to dress, to scrutinize, or to judge. And, I am sure not honoring God by making that my focus. Instead, I want to show my body the love it deserves. I want to take care of it, because it’s the only one I’ve got. And, I want to be happy in my own skin.
I am working on viewing my body differently when I look in the mirror. It’s time to stop the hate and show the love. Below is a list of the ways I plan to take care of my body daily, improve my overall health in the new year, and ultimately achieve a healthier mind, body, and soul.
- Eat for nutrition and fuel
- Workout for strength, endurance, and energy
- Positive self-talk when I look in the mirror
- Meditation and prayer for a healthy heart and positive mind
To accomplish the nutrition and workout goals I have for myself, I am taking part in a 6 week program that teaches you how to eat right for your body weight, including carb cycling and intermittent fasting, and building lean muscle mass through HIIT, strength training, and sprint interval training. With this, I receive a trainer/nutritionist that will help me along the way, as well as an accountability group to help me stick to my plan and provide motivation and encouragement throughout this process. Check out the plan, FASTer Way To Fat Loss, and reserve your spot for the next 6 week cycle. I’ll be sharing more of my journey with you, including updates, progress reports, before and after photos, and my full disclosure on how I’m doing and loving the plan.
To accomplish the heart and mind change I am looking for, I am spending 30min of my day in solitude, talking to God, reading my Bible and daily devotional, and journaling about this process. I have always strived to spend time with God daily, but now more than ever, it is extremely difficult. With two kids, and social media at my fingertips, there are just so many distractions pulling me away. Along with that, I feel like I need God now more than ever because of those very reasons. Motherhood is so challenging, and I need Him to guide me, teach me, and help me be the very best mother I can be. And, we all know social media takes a toll on our self-esteem. I want to find my worth in Christ, instead of questioning my self-worth because of how social media makes me feel.
I’m excited to track my progress so that I can be honest with myself, and all of you, about where I’m at with my goals. I’d love to hear from you any questions you have or ways you’ve worked on self-improvement in your own lives. I think it’s important to always work on bettering ourselves, and I’m open to any advice, tips, tricks, books, etc. that have worked for you.
I don’t know about you, but new workout clothes totally help me get in the right mindset for crushing goals. Is it just me, or does feeling good about yourself and your clothes part of having a good workout?? They instantly put me in a better mood and give me an “I can do this” attitude for my workouts. Check out my new super cute crop hoodie that can be worn before, during, or after your workout. I love that this is a multi use item. Also, how amazing are my turquoise leggings? These leggings are super soft, really flexible, and very flattering. And, they don’t move or slide down during your workout, which is a huge plus for me! Also, check out my black all star leggings with the cutest white and pink design. I’m obsessed with how great these look and feel. Below, I’ve listed some of my favorite places to shop for workout gear, including my current favorite sports bra!
Fabletics-love that they are less expensive, and offer so many colors/patterns/designs. Lots of studio to street styles for multiple uses, in and out of a workout.
Lululemon-love their outerwear. For top of the line quality on coats, jackets, or those pieces that you just have to have and want to last you many years of use, you can’t deny Lulu’s quality.
ZYIA Active-love the hoodie and leggings from here that I linked above. Definitely want to try more of their pieces!
Lilybod-love the black leggings from here that I linked above. I definitely like their unique designs that really stand out. I’ll be getting more from here, for sure!
I hope you find something new that helps motivate you and get you in the mood to crush your goals! Happy Shopping!!
From my heart to yours,
