The Plan is…There is no plan

You know how you have these thoughts and ideas of how something is going to go, and then something happens and it completely changes everything?, that’s basically parenting, in a nutshell. 😉

Parenting changes you in a lot of ways, but I think the biggest way it has changed me is my ability to “go-with-the-flow.” I used to be such a planner, and when something happened to alter the plans, I didn’t tend to take it well. I then relied on a back-up plan, that I had already planned out, in the event that the original plan might not go as planned. Wow..I had problems. So, I became a mom..

Ok, so that’s not why I became a mom, nor do I believe that I don’t have problems..BUT, during pregnancy, I noticed how my decisive nature became indecisive, and my plans became maybes, and nothing seemed to matter as much as the little life growing inside of me. And, to my amazement, those things stuck.

My entire perspective on life has changed, so much so, that I can’t understand why I used to plan so much, or prepare for the unknown, or get upset when plans didn’t happen like they should. As long as my family and I are healthy, I know no matter what happens, its going to be a good day. I no longer plan my days or stick to a schedule. Not only do I not feel the need to do that, but because I know the minute I do, its going to completely change.

With that being said, I still have certain things that I plan for in my day–certain appointments, errands, lunches, etc. but, I’m no longer locked in from the moment I wake to the time I go to bed. I’m so much happier, and I just feel…free. Basically, my body picked the perfect time to have such an epiphany, because as I’ve experienced with a child, your plans completely change on the daily. You get to the end of your day, and look back at just how different it went from the idea in your head of what you thought was going to happen. And, I could completely care less.

Thank God, because if I were the same person, I’d probably be throwing toddler-size tantrums with my daughter everyday.. Besides, I would totally miss out on all the amazing moments that happen with my daughter if I was wrapped up in my “plan.” And, who needs that?? 🙂
