Just Like Me

I heard it a thousand times growing up.. “I hope you have a daughter just like you, one day!” Well, thanks mom..You got your wish! 😉

To be honest, I never fully understood that statement, until becoming a mom, myself. I knew part of it was a joke, but I also knew an even bigger part was DEAD SERIOUS. I’m sure she was hoping I would one day experience similar joys and challenges that she experienced, so that I might appreciate her more. Ok, mom..got it! I appreciate you! More than you know!!

BUT, I also believe she wanted me to have a better understanding of her, as well. I now see why she did certain things, and I can relate to her on a whole new level. Motherhood is not for the weak, that’s for sure, and I’m so glad I have my mom to turn to when I need guidance in navigating new territory. I’ve not always been so willing to ask for help or seek advice. I’m very much an “I can do it myself” type of person–which, I 110% see in my daughter..

I love her spunky, happy-go-lucky, full of life, personality. She’s constantly moving and grooving, can’t sit still, and on to the next after a few mere seconds! That active, energetic little girl commands the room, making all eyes on her with her joyful spirit, funny behavior, and her contagious smile. On the flip side, because she has such a big personality, the melt downs are big, the tantrums are big, and its full on drama ALL THE TIME.

At times when I see her strong-will and determination come out, (which, let’s be honest, is practically every day!) I just have to laugh to myself because I know that is all me coming through. I can’t blame her easy-going, laid back, go-with-the-flow father..because, everyone knows I’d be lying! It’s fun to see yourself in your child, but I’d also be lying if I didn’t sometimes wish she had a little less mommy, and a lot more daddy! 🙂

Right now, those qualities are a HUGE challenge, and I’m working on ways to channel them for good, because I also know the positive side to those characteristics. My hope and prayer is that she uses her strong will and determination to never give up, take action, lead the way, and get things done, while obeying, listening, and understanding. That can happen, right??..

I believe with good parenting, good guidance, and a whole lot of prayer, it can happen! I mean, it happened with me! Right, mom?? 😉
